Calling all Marriage and Family Therapists! This new live cohort experience is for you!
Rooted & Integrated:
Building Your Cohesive Theoretical Framework for Confident Clinical Practice
An 8-Week Live Cohort · Marriage & Family Therapists · Systemic Clinicians
You've invested years in becoming a skilled therapist. So why does your practice still feel more like a borrowed collection of techniques than a grounded approach you can call your own?
12 spots only · Founding rate: $997 · CEs sponsored by IAMFT (purchased separately)
What if you could walk into every session knowing exactly why you’re doing what you’re doing?
That's what a cohesive theoretical framework gives you. Not a new theory. Not another modality to add to your toolkit. A coherent, personally integrated foundation that organizes everything you already know and makes your practice uniquely yours.
-A supervisor asks you to articulate your theory of change. You answer with clarity and confidence, not because you rehearsed it, but because you actually know it.
-A training for a new model crosses your desk. Instead of wondering whether to add it to your toolkit, you know immediately how, or whether, it fits your existing framework.
-A complex case emerges and instead of reaching for the most recent technique you've learned, you work from a grounded theoretical lens that organizes your clinical thinking.
Let's Name It
You're good in the room. You feel connected to your clients and they make progress. But the moment someone asks you to describe your approach — in a bio, a referral or networking conversation, a potential client consultation, a Psychology Today profile — something shifts. You hesitate. You hedge. You reach for a description that’s full of acronyms but doesn't quite fit what actually happens in the therapy room.
And if you're being honest, it's not just a marketing problem. It's a clinical one too.
Most MFTs spend their careers drawing from a wide range of theories and models intuitively, eclectically, and without a clear through-line connecting what they do in the room to a coherent theoretical foundation. Add in the constant pull of the newest approach, the latest research, the most current model, and before long your practice is a collection of techniques that work but doesn't quite hang together as something you can fully call your own.
The distinctly systemic, relational lens that makes MFT practice uniquely ours, the thing that should be organizing everything else, gets harder and harder to locate under the accumulation.
The result shows up everywhere:
When someone asks about your approach you rattle off a list of models you’ve trained in, no matter how briefly, because the honest answer either feels too complicated to explain quickly or you think those are the ones clients, other clinicians, and insurance carriers know and seem to want.
Your Psychology Today profile, your website bio, your elevator pitch, all of them feel vague or like they could belong to anyone
You chase down all the newest and hottest models and certifications, spending thousands of hours and dollars, hoping one of them will finally make it all click and you’ll feel fully confident
You reach for that newest model or intervention in session without always knowing how it connects to your broader clinical beliefs.
Supervision and consultation feel harder than they should because you can't always articulate the why behind your clinical decisions
You know your work is effective but you can't fully explain, even to yourself, what's actually driving it
This isn't a failure of skill or dedication. It's a gap that most MFT training, and almost all continuing education, never addresses directly. The theoretical foundation that should be running your practice was never built. Not because you weren't paying attention. Because nobody showed you how.
That's exactly what Rooted & Integrated is designed to do.
What This Course Is
Not a new theory.
Your own approach.
Rooted & Integrated is an 8-week live cohort experience designed specifically for MFTs and other systemic clinicians who are ready to move beyond eclecticism and ground their clinical work in a cohesive, personally integrated theoretical framework.
This is not about learning a new approach or adding another technique to your practice. It's about understanding the theories already running through your work and critically examining them, finding where they fall short, and building something intentional, coherent, and yours from them.
Over 8 weeks you'll engage in six 90-minute live sessions with Dr. Miller covering core course content, followed by two 90-minute culminating workshop sessions where you'll share and refine your Living Approach to Therapy Document with your cohort. You leave with something real.
Weeks 1-2
Grounding in Systems Theory & Core MFT Models
Not a surface review. A real engagement with the assumptions, structures, and tenets that make MFT theory distinctively ours and that runs underneath, around, and beyond diagnosis-focused approaches.
Weeks 3-4
Developing Your Critical Lens
How to evaluate theories critically — identifying their assumptions, finding their limits, and understanding what they can and can't explain. This is where most training stops. We're just getting started.
Weeks 5-6
Filling the Gaps
Using other theories and models, the lates research, outside the field approaches, and your own clinical experience to address what your critique reveals. This is the integration work, where your framework begins to take its own shape.
Weeks 7-8
The Culminating Workshop Sessions
You'll share your Living Approach to Therapy Document with your cohort and receive feedback from colleagues who've done this work alongside you. You leave with something written, refined, and genuinely yours.

Your Instructor
Meet Dr. Rachel Miller
I've spent my career at the intersection of clinical practice, MFT education, and professional advocacy. One thing I've observed consistently across all of it is this: the clinicians who practice with the most confidence and the most genuine presence in the room are the ones who know exactly why they're doing what they're doing.
Not because they found the right technique or the perfect model. But because they did the work to build a theoretical home for their practice.
Rooted & Integrated grows directly out of my workshop of the same name — expanded into a full cohort experience for MFTs and other systems thinkers who are ready to go deeper than a 2 hour workshop allows. This is PhD-level thinking made accessible and applicable, taught by an AAMFT Approved Supervisor who has done this work with clinicians at every stage of their career.
I'm limiting this cohort to 12 participants because this work deserves a deep dialogue not a lecture.
Testimonials from the Original Rooted & Integrated Workshop
“The Rooted and Integrated workshop should be required for all MFTs. Working with Rachel allowed me to really focus on my own unique relationship to the theories I practice, and helped me refine, challenge and expand my approach. I left the workshop with increased clarity and confidence in my approach. Highly recommend! “
~ Lena Elkhatib, LMFT, CST, CST-S
“Dr. Miller was an excellent teacher. The material was relevant to our practice.” ~ Anonymous workshop participant
“The entire presentation was Excellent. I especially appreciate the perspectives challenging a lack of diversity in some of the field and research. She was not afraid to address these issues head on and in a humble way. “

“I attended the Rooted and Integrated Workshop and Rachel was phenomenal! She has an immense knowledge base and is incredible at delivering it in a digestible and actually helpful way. The conversations that came from this workshop helped me solidify my framework and increased my clarity within my work. I highly recommend this to MFTs since we so often get forgotten as a specialty. I only wish I had done this sooner!”
~Caitlin Nelson, LMFT
“Rachel Miller is a fantastic clinician and engaging instructor who truly knows her stuff. The Rooted and Integrated workshop helped me clarify my therapeutic lens and challenged me to think more deeply about why I choose the approaches and interventions I tend to rely on. I can see this course benefiting clinicians at every stage of their careers—from those just starting out to seasoned practitioners looking to deepen and refine their clinical work.”
~ Rachel Zar, PhD, LMFT, CST
“Rachel’s examples of difficult sessions and how to approach difficult clients were extremely helpful-very sensitive to complex issues.”

Because this work requires a real room. The culminating workshop sessions, where participants share and refine their Living Approach to Therapy Document, only work in a small, trust-based group. 12 is the ceiling not a marketing strategy.
-
This is the inaugural run of Rooted & Integrated as a full cohort experience. Founding cohort members participate in shaping the course — their feedback, engagement, and lived experience in the room will directly inform future iterations. The $500 discount is a genuine exchange for that participation and labor. When this cohort closes, the price becomes $1,497.
